Shakespeare & Company kicks off their 2021 theater season with a production of King Lear, featuring beloved Emmy winning actor of stage and screen, Christopher Lloyd. July 2nd through August 29th, 2021.

Shakespeare & Company has been bringing the works of The Bard and others to life in the Berkshires since 1978, May through to December. Though the company’s focus is primarily Shakespeare, works by other authors are also presented.

They also provides actor training to both new students and working professionals. Each autumn, the company presents the Fall Festival of Shakespeare to over 500 high school students. The festival is a 9 week, collaborative exploration and production of a variety of Shakespeare plays.

Shakespeare & Company has a far reaching reputation that draws both audience members and stars to their productions and classes. Keanu Reeves, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss, and Andie MacDowell, have all graced their stages or attended their workshops.

The 2021 Shakespeare & Company theater season gets off to a roaring start with Christopher Lloyd as King Lear.

Christopher Lloyd got his start as an apprentice in summer stock at age 14 and now has a career spanning nearly five decades. Most recognize him for his roles as Reverend Jim Ignatowski on television’s “Taxi” or Dr. Emmett Brown from the “Back to the Future” movies. Though better known for his roles on the big and small screen, the actor has also appeared in over two hundred plays.

King Lear, widely regarded as one of Shakespeare’s most moving tragedies, tells the tale of the once-powerful king dividing his kingdom between his three daughters. The production, originally scheduled for the summer of 2020, will be performed outdoors at the New Spruce Theater in Lenox, MA.
