The Inn's Storied Past
Our HistoryThough our stately Georgian-style manor wasn’t erected until 1906, the legacy of these tranquil grounds traces back over two centuries prior. Stockbridge co-founder Samuel Williams claimed these wooded acres in 1739, harboring hopes to spread Christianity to the indigenous people of Stockbridge.
The pastoral grounds changed hands for generations before being purchased by eminent Boston attorney Phillip Blagdon to construct a lavish summer estate befitting Gilded Age extravagance. His noble lineage retained ownership until 1972 when it traded inhabitants once more. Through eras of shifting residents, our estate persists as a welcoming mountainside bastion.

Decades of Dedicated Owners
New HandsSince its era as the Blagdon’s noble summer palace, our estate has transitioned through various caretakers who have honored its legacy. Lee and Don Weitz revived the property into a bed and breakfast in 1982 before Alice and Len Schiller expanded the grounds by erecting our cozy Cottage House and rustic Barn during the 1990s. Most recently, we’ve welcomed Gary and Nicole as innkeepers, driven by dreams first kindled halfway across the world.
This dynamic couple met out west in Los Angeles amid film industry careers. While lodging at a family-run inn during their honeymoon, they discovered a shared passion for hospitality’s power to create community. East Coast natives, returning east felt like coming home to raise their daughter Riva. We’re delighted the Berkshires now captivate their imagination and thank them for infusing new life into these historic halls.
